Casting Complete On Cape Cod Radio

Mystery Theater's Next Production,

The Case of the Four Little Beatles

After a very successful audition, all roles have been cast and production has begun on Cape Cod Radio Mystery Theater's next production, The Case of the Four Little Beatles.
On February 4, 2006, the interested actors made their way through the winter rain to the Tilden Arts Center and tried out for parts in this latest Captain Underhill mystery. In this adventure, an untold story set in the early 60s, The Brain From Barnstable takes on four very famous clients - John, Paul, George and Ringo.
Recording has already begun on this episode, and Dave Ellsworth and Wally O'Hara are returning as Captain Underhill and Doctor Scofield. Stay tuned to this page for more details! And for more pictures, visit our Backstage page!

The Case of the Calico Lobster

Enters Final Phase Of Production

The Case of the Calico Lobster is in the home stretch. Engineer Jim Hall is currently grooming the dialogue and sound effects tracks, while composer Mark Birmingham is sharpening his flats in preparation for composing the musical underscore to accompany the entrances and exits of a 40 pound lobster named Hercules.
For those who like a little learning with their mystery, we guarantee that after you've listened to this show, you'll know enough about lobsters to be able to hold your own at any zoology class or clambake. We've had the best scientists from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and the Marine Biological Laboratory assisting, not to mention Bruce Estrella, Senior Marine Biologist with the Mass. Division of Fisheries).
The splendid cast includes a number of familiar voices. Dave Ellsworth and Wally O'Hara shine again as Captain Underhill and Doctor Scofield. Pete Milan, who was featured in Edgar Allan Crow and Cobra, appears this time as Enrique Robusto, a role which put his vocal chords and our compressor/limiter to the test.
Also in the cast: Don Bliss, who played Meany Thumbacher in The Queen is in the Counting House, is cast as Joe Poseidon. Jean Bates returns as the Dock Street Chowder House waitress, Gerty McWaters. New voices include Jennifer Logan, who was discovered out of a high school talent competition. She plays Molly Neptune. Another newcomer is Cape Cod teenage heart-throb Joe Magnus, who plays the part of Will O'Neil. Joe's older brother Rory appeared as the school bus driver in Cobra. Joe has his own garage band, and they are getting good. Also new to our radio stage, but certainly not to listeners of commercial radio on Cape Cod, is Bumper Morgan, who plays the part of DJ Sam.
For those who like their suspense leavened with a little humor, Calico Lobster also features Underhill, Scofield and McWaters singing a rendition of Tom Lehrer's twisted comic song, "I Hold Your Hand in Mine." For those whose memories are becoming as senile as Captain Underhill's, we remind you that Tom Lehrer is an American singer/songwriter, satirist and mathematician. Contacted for permission to use his property, Mr. Lehrer responded graciously, "The show sounds like fun. By all means quote all you want." Tom Lehrer, like CCRMT's author, Steven Oney, is also a recipient of a Raven Award from the Mystery Writers of America. Mr. Lehrer, the second person to receive one, won his in 1954 for his mystery parodies; other winners have included Alfred Hitchcock, Vincent Price, Edward Gorey, and Angela Lansbury.
For those interested in becoming acquainted or re-acquainted with this comic genius, we point you to his albums, An Evening Wasted with Tom Lehrer, That Was The Year That Was and TomFoolery, a revue of his songs on the London stage. Rhino Records has also put out a box set of all his works, titled The Remains of Tom Lehrer.

Cape Cod Radio Mystery Theater Lesson Plans--

Bridging the Language Gap

Excerpts from CCRMT programs are now being used to help teach English to high school students all across France. Editions Nathan 2005 presents students with audio excerpts from a Captain Underhill mystery and The Caller on Line One, and then asks them to answer questions out of a workbook, based on the episode they've just heard. These plans have been written by Tom Brown, a science teacher and CCRMT fan. Click here to learn more!
