Steve Oney to Speak at Northern New England Audio Theatre Conference 2000

Steve Oney will be speaking at Keene State College, during the Northern New England Audio Conference. The conference is geared towards performers, radio
personnel, writers, teachers,
producers of radio or audio works, and radio or
theater buffs--no experience is necessary.
The goal of the conference is to network people
interested in preserving and expanding
the field of radio and audio theater for future
generations.
The conference includes workshops in three basic
categories--writing for radio,
performance, and technical/production considerations
and demonstrations. Auditions will
be held on Friday evening for two shows which will be
recorded on Sunday, to be
submitted for national broadcast distribution by Radio
Works. A digital video of the
production will also be made.
Writing workshops include writing your own script,
writing short (3-5 minutes) scripts for
a daily broadcast, radio dramas in the classroom as a
language arts curriculum, adapting
short stories as radio plays, and writing and
producing mysteries.
Performance workshops include acting for radio,
working with actors and directors, vocal
warming and breathing exercises, developing character
voices, developing the character,
aural vs visual perceptions when writing or performing
to create an image, and how to
scream without hurting your vocal chords (by
Hollywood's Scream Queen).
Technical workshops include developing the soundscape,
recording considerations in and
out of doors, on-location, microphone choices, analog
vs digital, etc., recording and editing
with Sonic Foundry products, streaming for the
internet, minidisc recording, sound effects,
starting your own radio theater group and more.
