Mark Birmingham

Composer/musician Mark Birmingham is well-known and respected throughout the music community for both his musical talents and prowess with the use of digital music and computers in his compositions. Since 1987, Mark has run PROSONUS, a company he founded that deals with digitally recorded instrument and musical libraries. With this company, he also works extensively in the areas of production, recording and licensing his music library for multi-media use, as well as all facets of administration.

In addition to his business achievements, Mark has recently delved into the area of original songwriting, self-releasing a full-length CD of wonderful classical and new-age inspired songs titled “Garden Life”. On the album, Mark displays his talents on the piano, synthesizers and synclavier, joined on two tracks by string players. He also produced and assisted in the engineering of the album as well as releasing it under his own Rosemead Recordings moniker.

Throughout the 70’s and early 80’s, Mark gained much popularity in Europe and North America as a concert pianist. Mark’s stellar concert performances received high critical acclaim from music critics throughout both continents. A 1975 graduate of the Manhattan School Of Music, Mark also won a soloist competition in 1976 with the Cape Cod Symphony, and placed as a finalist two years later in the Portland Symphony national competition.

He then worked as a piano instructor and free-lance composer which included composing music for the Cape Cod Radio Mystery Theater before moving to L.A. in 1985. It was there he began programming and composing TV and film scores on a Synclavier Digital Music System, collaborating with such renowned film composers as Mark Isham, Jack Nitsche and Michael Convertino, among others. Mark worked at this until he founded PROSONUS in 1987, the same year he was commissioned to compose “Cape Cod Chronos” in commemoration of the symphony’s 25th anniversary.

In 1995, Mark and his family settled in their current home of Falmouth, Maine. Active in sports and investing, Mark Birmingham continues to amass clients for PROSONUS as well as pursuing his love for writing music, of which he professes, “I feel like I’m finally home.”
