We are planning our annual vacation at the cottage in New Hampshire and our family is looking forward to listening to new episodes. As I wrote previously, when the lights go out at the cottage, CCRMT comes on! Before I go to bed, I will say to the kids, “it’s a foggy night on ‘ol Cape Cod”, and they (6 and 8 ) say back, “a perfect night for a mystery!”.

Memories of Cape revisited

Just yesterday my younger brother and I were doing the bunny hop around the Chatham Bandstand – or so it seems.

Balloons of every color speckled the green hill, spread with blankets and families vacationing on the Cape in the summer months. If you look close enough, you can see my family – blanket outstretched, ears perked in attention—along with many others, steeped in a family tradition built over the years.

My brother and I always knew that when the calendar flipped to the summer months we were bound to pack up the family car and head to the Cape from our home in West Hartford, Conn.

A fog horn sounding throughout the car signaled the start of a Cape Cod Radio mystery theater; a program featuring the fictional retired Cape Cod police Captain Waverly Underhill and his physician friend Dr. Alexander Scofield solving mysteries across the Cape that we would listen to on the drive up.

And with the words, “It was a foggy night on old Cape Cod, a perfect night for a mystery” my love for storytelling and the Cape began

My mother, who passed away a couple of years ago, was a mystery fan. Before the brutal eye disease macular degeneration robbed her of her vision her favorite detective was TVs ‘Columbo’. After introducing her to CCRMT it was imperative that I have an episode always on hand during our many cars trips.

She often had a difficult time deciding who her new favorite character was. One episode it might be the formidable Captain Underhill and the next her heart belonged to the good Doctor. One thing I can say with certainty is that her most requested case was “The Queen is in the Counting House.” It was undoubtedly because as a ‘long suffering Chicago Cubs fan’ the baseball plot caught her fancy.

I am please to own every available “Underhill” and “Tales of Suspense” episode and look forward to each new release. Thank you for the timeless, quality entertainment provided by Cape Cod Radio Mystery!

My family would take long summer vacations driving across the country and we would listen to these mysteries on tape. I know this may sound weird but as the time has past I have acquired all of the old mysteries on tape and everytime I listen to them they take me back to those long rides in the minivan across country. Thanks for producing such great mysteries.
There is nothing better in the audio industry than Cape Cod Radio Mystery Theatre!!!!

Dear CCRMT,
I just received and heard the 28th episode of your great show. I collect the shows from the golden age of radio, and I’m a huge fan of radio drama. Your recent installment of Captain Underhill had my heart pounding. I’ve never been on the edge of my seat until I heard “Don’t Touch That Dial”.
I just wanted to say thank you.
I only have the last few episode’s of your show, but I can see I’m going to have to get my hands on the earlier episode’s. As one of your newer fans I’d also like to say one word to the creators:
MORE!

“. . . Her birthday has passed but she’s expecting a package in the mail from me as I told her I located the perfect birthday surprise. This way we can spread the celebration out for a longer period of time. (She lives in Portland, Oregon). Our family tradition is to work together in the kitchen and listen to the Cape Cods. At Christmas, we went through our entire library as we did our holiday baking and preparations for our annual Christmas eve open house! Having new ones won’t diminish our enjoyment of the old ones –especially Curse of the Whale’s Tooth and the one with the delivery guy who wears “muddly brown.”
